Late News:
At last night’s meeting at Waterstone’s
in Guildford, Tom Evans spoke about how
writing and publishing your book can transform
you and your business.
Tom put forward a proposal
for members of the Surrey Business Club
to write a collaborative book on business
ideas that could be used for each member
to promote themselves and for SBC to get
considerable amount of local PR.
The idea is that the book
is comprised of chapter each from different
authors with a different domain expertise.
The aim would be to have the book published
in time for a launch and signing back at
Waterstone’s later in the year. To
make it viable, we’d need at least
10 people to participate, 20-30 being ideal.
Where possible we would like the contribution
to have a local angle which could be a case
study from working on a local business.
The commitment you would
be expected to make is as follows:
Submit a proposal in outline
bullets for what you would like to write
about by April 11th
Be available for a one hour briefing teleconference
call (no cost) on the 18th April
Be able to submit your 1500-2000 words no
later than the end of May 2008
You should be aware of the
commercial arrangements for moving forward.
1. Each author will be able
to buy the books at a trade price of around
£3-4 and sell them at list price and
use them to promote their own business.
2. We are looking into ways
that profits from general and online sales
of the book can be re-invested in the Surrey
Business Club (or other follow on projects)
3. Once the proposals are
in, we will estimate the costs of production
of the book for editing, proof reading,
design and marketing. These costs will be
split amongst the contributing authors.
4. This means that, to get
yourself in print, you will need to invest
a day or so’s time writing your contribution
and something in the region of £150-250
depending on the size of the book and the
numbers of people getting involved.
