SBC MEETING JUNE 2009

Surrey-Online, Online Demo

The University of Surrey at Guildford was the venue for our June club meeting.
The team behind Surrey-Online (www.surrey-online.co.uk) returned to give us a live online guide to how to get the most for our businesses from the Surrey-Online package that Club members have free of charge until January 2010.

Paul Cawthorne of P & G Computers ran the networking session in conjunction with the enjoyable buffet.

The main presentation was run by staff from Webskills UK Ltd, who have developed Surrey-Online. Deryck Svensson introduced the presentation and then Jamie Stuart gave an overview of the site.

Stuart Lawrence then showed us how to set up an account, showing how to select towns and categories. Jamie then returned to cover the key elements of setting up your page from both a potential client and a Google viewpoint. We then looked at examples of how existing businesses are using their pages on Surrey-Online to gain top rankings on Google and the other search engines and also achieving real enquiries.

Kris Kurzydlo then explained how the project was developed to interact with Google. Kris also examined alternative ways in which Club members with niche services should consider using the site through their package and the Surrey-Online business forums using what Kris calls the 'guru' effect of publishing information as an expert in their particular field.

A final Q & A session concluded the evening and we continued to chat and network over the last of the buffet.
