SBC MEETING AUGUST 2006
Annual Barbecue
Our August ‘members and partners only’ barbecue
was once again staged at the Wotton Village Hall, in
a delightful rural setting at the rear of the car park
of the Wotton Hatch pub and restaurant (definitely the
best of both worlds!)
Paul Cawthorne masterminded the event,
and blagged the loan of a superb gas barbecue through
his extensive contacts in the Sutton ‘Mafia’.
The hall has a well equipped kitchen, so we enjoyed
the luxury of proper cutlery and crockery – all
very civilised! There was an astonishing quantity of
excellent food on offer, including bangers, burgers
and rib-eye steak cooked to perfection by Paul C and
Richard Jones, and massive jacket spuds brought along
by Linda Svensson with cheese and beans to the delight
of the veggies (and the carnivores!).
There were some superb salads prepared
by Linda Haynes, and delicious desserts (several home
made, all naughty but nice!) from Claudine Kent. We
had an ample sufficiency of wine and beers as well –
in fact there were even a couple of bottles of wine
left over (amazing!)
In the gaps between courses there was
a token attempt at some outdoor sporting activity in
the form of boules and quoits, to the great amusement
of participants and spectators alike.
Thanks are due to Paul for making it
happen, and all who contributed their efforts to this
splendid occasion, which once again proved that when
it comes to eating, drinking and being merry, SBC really
knows its onions (fried on this occasion to cordon bleu
standard by the Club Chairman). Lots of willing volunteers
came forward to help with clearing up, before the real
die-hards adjourned to the pub for well-earned beer.
