SBC JUNE 2006 MEETING

Our June meeting was what we call a ‘spectacular’ – a special event open to all Surrey businesses free of charge, with a lavish buffet and two excellent guest speakers.

This event was made possible by virtue of EU-funding, arranged with UniSdirect as part of their ‘Taste of Coaching’ programme. Attendees had plenty of opportunities for networking both at the start of the evening and during intervals over the buffet.

The first presenter was Len Goss, who took on the challenge of covering a vast list of topics in forty-five minutes with gusto - and managed it in just under an hour! After a whirlwind introduction to coaching, Len involved the audience in a hands-on workshop, so everybody really did get a taste of coaching, as promised.

After the interval, Bev Hamilton showed us another equally effective style of presenting, and illustrated how she brings real value to her business clients using coaching techniques. Bev also ‘coached’ us on a specific theme - how to find the right sort of clients for our business. She explained how a business coach can offer practical help to any organisation, especially the one-person consultancy, in achieving a balance across the wide range of demands on our time and resources.

The evening was a huge success – here are just a few of the enthusiastic comments we received:

“Could you please pass my gratitude to Surrey Business Club officers and the University of Surrey for organising the wonderful meeting on 6 June. The speakers were great and refreshment was good too.” Hideko Takahashi, Crown Agents

“Brilliant evening yesterday, I thought both speakers were excellent. I particularly liked the technique for rejections from Len - that was inspirational. Thank you for inviting me.” Heather Nichols, Nichols Associates

“Many thanks for an excellent informative and entertaining event last night. The presentations, food, facilities were all very good indeed.” Graham Whittle, Going4Growth Limited

“I would also like to express my thanks for a very enjoyable and educative evening on Tuesday and for all the hard work that I know goes on behind the scenes to organise such an event.” Jan Ledger, Travel Counsellors

“I came to the Surrey University meeting and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have already emailed Bev to thank her for a super presentation - one that helped me focus on what I was really doing and what I really wanted. Great stuff, thanks! “ Paul Webster, The Webster Partnership Ltd

Thanks are also due to the team at the Oak Suite, for organising the venue and catering so efficiently, and last but not least, to everybody who attended and took part with such evident enthusiasm and enjoyment. We plan to hold a spectacular SpeedNetwork100 event at the Oak Suite in October, so watch this space!
